About the Artist

Russell E. Gorga

When not teaching polymer science and engineering at North Carolina State University, Russell indulges in his greatest passion, photography. Although not formally trained in photography, Russell believes that his analytical nature and propensity for spatial relationships has promoted his attempt to create interesting compositions.

Rejoicing in the simplicity of the obscure and the underappreciated aspects of a scene, Russell continually attempts to find beauty in what others might take for granted. He seeks to capture a moment or object in a scene that someone standing next to him might miss, allowing the person viewing his photos to see the world from his perspective.

Russell finds the most inspiration from the beauty of landscape and in geometric shapes and lines of buildings and structures that surround him. He also finds great pleasure from the faces and postures of people he encounters, who unknowingly provide him with the opportunity of capturing their thoughts and emotions in a still frame. Through his photography, Russell attempts to weave a tale of the people he encounters and the stolen moments of their daily life and surroundings.
